Count That Day Lost- Bridging text and context – activity 2

Count That Day Lost- Bridging text and context – activity 2

George Eliot (pen name for Mary Ann Evans) was born in 1819 in Warwickshire, in Victorian England. The Victorian age was characterized by huge gaps between the classes. The lower classes lived in extreme poverty. The children were put to work in factories and mines to help support their families.
This information adds to my undertanding of the poem "Count That Day Lost".

From the infotmation about Mary Ann Evans I can understand that her goal was to create a better and
equal  socity to live in.With  this information I can relate to the poem.
By saying she wanted to "sit down at set of sun and count the acts that
she had done",she didn't accept the conditions that she
and other writers of that time had  deal with(phr.+gr.) . Eliot's books often pointed out the differences between wealthy landlords and poor, ordinary people and often criticized the behavior of the upper classes.

Moreover,She was concerned about the responsibility that people should take in their everyday lives and with the moral choices they must make. She wanted the peopl to make a change. It can be seen in the poem with the poet's request that each person has to "sit down at set of sun and count the acts the he has done"
he wants the pople to think about
their acts and their results and then
decide if the day is a "day well spent" or a "day as worse than lost".

In conclusion, I can say that the information about Eliot is very important in order to undertand more
easily the connection between her life and the moral in the poem , it makes it easier to understand the poem from the  poet's  point of view. I can undertand from the poem and from the information about Eliot that her main efforts were to make a better and equal  society  to live in.

This is much better, well done!
