Mr.Know All - Compare and contrast

On a ship at the end of world war one,two entirely different people were put in the same cabin ,those two men are the main characters in the story. 
One of them is the narrator of the story and the second one is called Max Kelada.

The narrator of the story is and english man who traveled from San Francisco to Yokohuma. The story of the narrator begins with his encounter with his room mate's luggage.
The narrator is judging his room mate based on his name
and his luggage. As the story continues, we learn that the narrator is an intolerant,
cynical person that won't accept new things if they don't seem right to him.
As the story moves on it seems that the narrator starts to like Mr. Kelada.
Throughout the story the narrator "did not like Mr.Kelada" and as the
story continues he changed his opinion about Mr.Kelada ,he "did not entirely dislike Mr. Kelada".

Mr.Kelada is the narrator room mate ,he likes the narrator.
Mr. Kelada is also an english man but is seems that he didn't came from englend,

he came from a colony of the english empire,he was born under a bluer sky.
Mr.Kelada is a short, sturdy man, clean shave and dark skinned with a fleshy
hooked nose and very large lustrous and liquid eyes. Mr.Kelada is a chatty,hearty
and a jovial man, he is patriotic, he is familiar and a stubborn person.Mr. Kelada traveled to Japan to look at the Japanese pearl business
that makes the cultured pearls. He works in the pearl business,he knows
all about pearls.
At the end of the story turnd out that Mr. Kelada is a smart man,
he noticed the little things about a person and before he acts he thinks about the consequences.

At the end of the story we see that the narrator and Mr.Kelada are getting along.
If I had to choose which one of the two main characters I want to be I would have to
choose to be Mr.Kelada because of his nice personality and because he thinks outside of the box.
